Private Individuals

As a private individual there will be times when you will need the help of lawyers who can give you clear, practical and affordable help and advice. We have the experience needed to give you just such help and advice in the areas of law that can impact on your life as a private individual.

Children:
Our expertise covers matters related to the well-being of children, including residence or contact orders, parental responsibility, emigration, child abduction and adoption.

Cohabitation:
The rights of couples who are neither married nor in a civil partnership differ greatly from those who are. We can advise you on the legal issues to consider if you are embarking on a relationship. We can prepare a cohabitation agreement that deals with what should happen if you or your partner dies or the relationship ends. If a relationship breaks down we can advise on the financial issues.

Debt problems and insolvency:
We can advise you on arrangements with creditors and on matters relating to bankruptcy.

Employment:
We can advise you on the terms of a new contract of employment or, if you and your employer have to part company, on the terms of any severance deal that is offered to you. We can also advise you if you are unfairly dismissed or suffer discrimination or harassment at work.

Injunctions:
If you are faced with domestic violence or where assets to which you have a claim are at risk of being dissipated we can take action by applying to the court for a non-molestation order, occupation order, or order to prevent the dissipation of an asset.

Litigation and dispute resolution:
We can advise you on disputes in a wide variety of areas. We have a particularly strong reputation in property and employment litigation.

Marriage and civil partnerships:
We can advise on the use of pre-marital or pre-civil partnership agreements. Should a relationship fail we can guide you on the issues to be considered and the action to take to ensure that you are not prejudiced. We can help you to settle financial arrangements whether by the collaborative law process, conventional negotiation or, if need be, through the courts.

Personal injury:
If you have suffered injury, you could be entitled to bring a claim for damages. We can help you if you have sustained an injury whether at work, in a road traffic accident, on holiday or as a result of a crime.

Residential property:
We offer full residential conveyancing services for buyers and sellers of all properties in England and Wales. We specialise in particular in prime London and country homes. We are experts in leasehold enfranchisement.

Wills, probate, trusts and tax:
Trust law is a particular strength of the firm and it has qualified members of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. We can also advise on wills and attend to probate and to the administration of estates. We can guide you on the steps to take to mitigate inheritance tax.
