Stamp duty debate has caused 'a lot of anxiety' |

The government's speculation over the possibility of introducing a stamp duty holiday has caused "a lot of anxiety" in the property market, an industry expert has warned.
Property website iammoving.com has said that uncertainty has not helped to improve the current housing situation.
Simon Preston, chairman of iammoving.com, said: "The government has caused a lot of anxiety of late about whether they might give relief on stamp duty and obviously that's not going to encourage someone to complete on a house sale in the next couple of months until they come clean on that."
According to a survey by the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), 92 per cent of estate agents believe that the debate over whether to scrap stamp duty has only served to increase consumer concerns.
Conducted only a week after chancellor Alistair Darling hinted that their may be stamp duty relief for first-time buyers, the survey found that 25 per cent of estate agents said sales had fallen through as a direct result of the debate. |
