Bargaining tenants urged to 'be realistic' |

Landlords may face having to deal with tenants trying to negotiate over rental prices in the current macroeconomic climate, it has been suggested.
Chris Jenkins, manager of Clarity Commercial, has warned that tenants may be able to barter with some landlords but they have to be realistic.
He explains that a number of landlords "operate on tighter margins" than others and this lack of leeway will mean that they will not be able to offer any discount.
"If a property is fairly priced and is in good condition then demand is likely to be high and so the potential to negotiate could be limited," Mr Jenkins added.
However, he argued that landlords are particularly fond of security, so if tenants supply a guarantor or offer a larger deposit than usual then they could be in a better position to barter.
The average monthly rent in the UK stood at £591 in December 2008, according to Rentright's Residential Rental Price Index, a figure that is down from £645 in November 2008 and £820 in December 2007. |
