Tenancy disputes 'more prevalent' in the south-east |
|
A new survey has found that tenants in the south-east are more likely to cause damage to a rental property.
According to the Deposit Protection Service (DPS), 40 per cent of the disputes it has between involved in between landlords and tenants have taken place in the region.
It was also found that property damage is accountable for over half (52 per cent) of these clashes, while 36 per cent were attributed to the property being dirty.
Behind the south-east, the north-east is where the second highest level of disputes takes place, with the region supplying 15 per cent of all disagreements - followed by the south-west (12 per cent) and north-west (11 per cent).
However, Kevin Firth, director of The DPS, says: "The introduction of a dispute resolution service has been one of the real successes of the government's tenancy deposit legislation - ensuring that these differences are sorted out fairly."
Meanwhile, Nina Longstaff of Architect Your Home has claimed that interior design is a "key element' in attracting the best tenants.
