14/01/2009 Data protection a top concern, poll finds |
|
It has been reported that a new survey has found that people are as concerned with data protection as they are with crime. Information commissioner Richard Thomas is set to inform MPs that the annual tracking survey has found that 94 per cent of respondents believe that the protection of their personal data is their primary concern, the Telegraph claims. This shows that the public view data loss, identity theft and invasion of privacy as a serious offence and Mr Thomas will reportedly point to the 277 data breaches by public bodies since October 2007 - when the personal details of 25 million families were lost by HM Revenue and Customs. Earlier this year, the Information Commissioner's Office advised people in the UK to get to grips with Data Protection Act so that they can know their rights and use it to "protect their personal details". |
