|
Though houses, money and children are usually at the forefront of divorcing couples' worries, a new trend is emerging among those who are planning to separate.
According to legal representatives, who gets to keep the family pet is becoming a mounting arguement between divorcing couples.
This is becoming so frequent an issue that the services of lawyers are being increasingly turned to and pet visiting rights have even been agreed upon in some cases.
"With animals it becomes very emotional. It's almost a peg on which to hang all the other frustrations and to try to get the better of the other person," said Grant Howell, family law partner at Charles Russell law firm.
Meanwhile, last week researches from St Andrews University found that the rate of couples filing for divorce increases by five per cent with every ten per cent drop in property prices.
