Some 90 per cent of companies are putting their customers at risk of identity fraud, according to a new survey put together for National Identity Fraud Prevention Week.
Consumers are not confident in companies' ability to protect them from fraud as some 97 per cent of customers in the UK were concerned with the ability of the organisations they deal with to protect their information.
It seems their fears are not unfounded as the survey also revealed that 92 per cent of employees admitted that customer data is open to fraud.
VNUnet.com reported Tyron Hill, official spokesperson for the ID fraud event, as saying: "British businesses and organisations have a duty to help drive the fight against ID fraud.
"There is no excuse for continually putting employees and customers at risk. It is critical that organisations ensure that sensitive and confidential data is managed safely and securely."
National Identity Fraud Prevention Week began yesterday (October 6th) and aims to advise customers and businesses on best practice to avoid identity theft.
