22/09/2009 Divorce claim based on marriage that lasted weeks |
|
A wife has sought a divorce payment of half her husband's wealth after a marriage that lasted just a few weeks, it has been claimed.
Model Heather Swan is said to be seeking half the wealth of footballer Michael Chopra, despite the two splitting up shortly after tying the knot, the Daily Mirror reports.
The two had been in a relationship for several years and have a son, but fell out the evening after they were married.
A source told the paper she believed she was entitled to the money to give herself and their son financial security, as well as recognising that she had supported Mr Chopra when he had been fighting a gambling addiction.
Those facing a break-up after a brief marriage may wish to speak to a divorce lawyer about the sort of settlement that they might be entitled to in the circumstances.
Earlier this week the Appeal Court altered a decision that had left a businessman with £450,000 of a £3 million fortune as his ex-wife took £1.9 million.
William Murphy had his share increased to £820,000, while Helene Murphy had her split reduced to £1.5 million.
