Divorce law change may arise from case
A legal case that may change divorce law is under way, brought by celebrity chef Marco Pierre White.

The issue, which concerns the right of one party to investigate the finances of the other, is under scrutiny as Mr White is challenging the legality of the interception of his mail and other documents by his estranged wife, the Times reports.

Should it be ruled that this activity is illegal, it would mean that those seeking to carry out detective work on their estranged partner's finances to provide evidence for their settlement claims may find such practices are no longer permitted.

Those who are facing the end of their marriage and are expecting a dispute over financial matters may wish to speak to a divorce lawyer about what they can and cannot do.

Earlier this month, January 4th - the first working day after the new year - was identified as the date with the largest number of divorce filings in the year.

According to experts, this is because people both put off a split until after Christmas and are sometimes driven apart by the strains of the festive period.
