Christmas and the credit crunch have reportedly combined to make it a hectic week for divorce lawyers.
A new survey has revealed that 20 per cent of couples are having marital problems and considering divorce, while six per cent are already in the process of seeking legal advice to part company.
The research was conducted by TakeLegalAdvice.com, which claims that last Monday (January 5th) has become known as D-Day with marital law professionals.
Derek Bedlow, managing editor of the website, says the research has proved that the credit crunch is "taking its toll" on British couples.
"Many think about divorce but the added pressures brought about by the downturn may be the straw that breaks the camel's back," he added.
Meanwhile, celebrities are not exempt from the effect with actress Patricia Arquette filing for divorce from her husband Thomas Jane in Los Angeles on Monday. |
