|
The rate of divorce in Britain is rising as a result of the recession, experts have stated.
Speaking to the International Herald Tribune, London-based divorce lawyer Vanessa Lloyd Platt said the pressures of the economic downturn have proved too much for some marriages.
She commented: "A recession either makes couples pull together for better or worse, or the money goes out the door and so does the spouse. I am seeing much more of the latter."
Last week the trend was also noted by divorce website Divorce-Online.
Its legal director Mark Keenan suggested that problems such as unpaid credit card bills run up by one partner coming to light in times of financial strain are to blame.
He noted that unreasonable behaviour is increasingly being cited as a reason for couples splitting.
Those facing the prospect of their marriage ending may need to take legal advice as soon as possible to handle the matter as smoothly as possible.
