27/04/2009 Family court reporting change implemented |
|
From today there will be less restrictions on media reporting of family law cases, meaning those facing divorce cases could see more details of their lives being released into the public domain.
The new law will still restrict the naming of vulnerable children, but applications can be made and granted for the media to report more on the details of proceedings in divorce cases.
President of the family division of the High Court Sir Mark Potter was quoted by the Guardian as saying: "I do not doubt that there will be more reports than there have been."
Those keen to resolve their divorce proceedings without potentially having their private details made public may wish to take legal advice on how to progress the situation in an amicable way.
People facing large amounts of publicity about their divorce include snooker player Shaun Murphy, whose estranged wife has threatened to disrupt one of his matches at the world championships in Sheffield to serve him divorce papers.
