12/12/2008 January 12th is 'Divorce Day' |
|
Lawyers claim that more couples will decide to divorce on January 12th than on any other day, it has been reported. Experts in the legal field are predicting that couples with children will stay together for one last Christmas and then split on the Monday as they go back to school, the Telegraph reports. Divorce rates are currently at their lowest levels since 1981, with 128,543 divorces in England and Wales last year, according to official figures. Last month, researchers calculated that a ten per cent fall in property prices will result in five per cent more couples deciding to part ways, with declining house prices affecting stability. Researchers at the Institute for Social and Economic Research, at the University of Essex, said that the effect will be even more pronounced in younger couples who have higher levels of debt and children living at home.
