11/09/2009 Recession 'causing surge in divorces' |
|
The recession is leading to more divorces taking place, a family lawyer has said.
Swindon-based Lyn Ellins told the Swindon Advertiser that the financial strains of the economic crisis have increased the rate of marital break-ups, noting that 70 per cent of her cases have been brought by men.
Suggesting this is because many are unsettled in the current situation, she remarked: "Where as they might have had a job for life, it is now not the case and they are making a complete change in their life."
Those facing a marital break-up may wish to speak to a divorce lawyer about how to proceed.
Some people, however, are actually holding off getting divorced because of the recession, family lawyer Janet Tresman recently stated.
She observed that many people are "scared" of the potential financial consequences, but added that there could be a surge of new cases when the recession ends.
