28/08/2009 Recession makes people "scared" of divorce |
|
People are being put off getting divorced because of worries about the recession, it has been suggested.
Janet Tresman, an expert in family law, stated that over the last nine months as the economic downturn has taken hold there has definitely been a trend of individuals putting off going to see divorce solicitors.
Her observations echo those of a number of solicitors polled recently by Unbiased.co.uk, 48 per cent of whom have seen a delay in financial settlements due to their clients wanting to wait until the recession is over.
"I think that people are scared," Ms Tresman remarked. "People are going through such a turmoil, financially, in their lives that they are terrified of making any radical changes."
However, she does not believe this will continue for much longer and expects that people will be looking to move on with their new lives as soon as the economy starts to recover.
