05/03/2009 Record divorce settlement prevented - by not having divorce |
|
A possible new record divorce settlement for the UK was prevented when the couple in question decided at the 11th hour not to split after all.
Jewellery billionaire Laurence Graff, whose fortune is worth £2 billion, was close to a settlement that could have broken the £48 million British record as he prepared to end his 47-year marriage to wife Anne Marie.
However, just as the decree nici was close to being issued, the couple halted proceedings, having resolved to make an attempt at reconciliation.
Those who may not be able to repair their marriage at a late stage and are proceeding with a divorce may need to take good legal advice to ensure their own settlement is carried out smoothly.
Another high-profile individual claimed to be trying to stop divorce proceedings is singer Amy Winehouse.
She has been texting Frank Sinatra lyrics to estranged husband Blake Fielder-Civil in an attempt to woo him back, according to a report in the Sun.
