Test case puts pre-nup laws on line
A test case has begun that could have major implications for Britain's pre-nuptial laws.

German heiress Katrin Radmacher has gone to court to attempt to overturn a pre-nuptial agreement signed by her and French ex-husband Nicolas Granatino in Germany, stipulating that neither could make a financial claim against the other in the event of a divorce.

If the court agrees that the agreement is not enforceable in the UK, this could exclude Mr Granatino from any part of Ms Radmacher's £100 million fortune.

Should Ms Radmacher's plea be granted, there could be significant implications for anyone with a pre-nuptial agreement, with the possibility that new ones may have to be drawn up.

Those planning to enter into such an arrangement may wish to take legal advice first.

Without a prenuptial agreement, divorces can lead to protracted disputes when a divorce takes place, such as that seen between Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills.

Earlier this week, Ms Mills used a speech at a vegan charity event to attack the amount she was awarded in the settlement, which was set at over £24 million.
