Using a divorce website in a bid to find a new way of dealing with the process is a fraught exercise, an expert has warned.
Chairman of family lawyers body Resolution Nick Longford told the Times that the creation of a number of online support communities for people facing marital splits can be helpful in terms of providing moral support, but does not offer a viable alternative to using the services of a solicitor to deal with the legal issues.
He stated: "I would hate people to think that this is a panacea and make themselves vulnerable. As for self-representing, there is an awful lot of law involved."
Mr Longford noted that engaging the services of a solicitor means the client will be tapping into the experience and support they can offer, as well as the legal expertise.
Solicitors may also provide services to those seeking pre-nuptial agreements just in case they divorce in the future.
Both pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements are becoming more common in Britain, the Ayrshire post noted recently.
