Trading Standards Authority warns of illegal ticket touts
Consumers who buy tickets online from unauthorised vendors are putting themselves at risk of being scammed by companies that cannot be traced.

That is according to the Trading Standards Institute (TSI), which has warned people that they often only hear about illegitimate businesses once the websites have been taken down.

Tony Northcott, a spokesperson for the TSI [[COMMA]] explained that new regulations came out in May which made it illegal for a company to sell goods that they do not have, but he warned that if they cannot trace a website, there is little they can do.

Mr Northcott said: "People must realise that you are dealing with touts and everything that goes with that so, you are basically dealing with criminals."

He continued: "The problem is trying to track these websites down. These websites will spring up and disappear just like that and we have no power to arrest."

Recent high profile cases where consumers have been conned out of money include website selling fake tickets for the Olympics.

The owners of Beijingtickets.com are thought to have earned nearly £5 million from fake tickets.ADNFCR-1805-ID-18745515-ADNFCR
