Councillor in concern about Hips in Ealing |

New rules for home information packs (Hips) could have a negative effect on Ealing's struggling housing market, a local councillor has warned.
Gurcharan Singh, who is also the Conservative parliamentary prospective candidate for Ealing Southall, claimed that the latest additions to Hips regulations may make it harder for people to buy and sell homes in the area, the Sikh Times reports.
Mr Singh noted that new regulations mean that sellers cannot put up a for sale sign until the Hip has been delivered - rather than just ordered - while he argued that the property questionnaires are "useless" as these include "don't know" boxes that "unscrupulous sellers" can tick.
He also commented that councils have increasing powers to fine people for non-compliance with the new regulations.
Those keen to buy or sell a home who are concerned about the legal requirements of Hips may wish to take legal advice on the matter.
Earlier this month, spokesman for the National Association of Estate Agents Richard Hair called the timing of the introduction of the new regulations "extremely dangerous", as it comes when the market is showing a few signs of picking up.
