|
A refuge for black and ethnic minorities in Ealing has won what has been described as a "landmark" case after its future was threatened.
Southall Black Sisters (SBS) were celebrating their victory in the case against the London Borough of Ealing.
Pragna Patel, the organisation's chairman, explained: "We feel vindicated because we feel the council has accepted that they made numerous errors."
She continued: "They've accepted that they got it wrong and are prepared to start again. We feel this could have all been avoided and it's a terrible waste of tax payers money."
The council had wanted to change the way it funds services such as SBS and had proposed a system that would mean groups had to bid for a single sum that would cover the whole borough.
SBS had claimed that the council had failed in its race relations duty but the council had challenged the existence of "selective support groups". |
