23/07/2009 £175,000 payout in personal injury case |
|
A man suffering from mesothelioma has been awarded £175,000 in a personal injury case.
Ex-plumber Alan Ward won the payout from the Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority concerning the frequent exposure he had to asbestos while working for them at hospitals in Wakefield between 1964 and 1972.
Dave Prentis, the general secretary of trade union Unison, which backed Mr Ward, commented: "Employers have to face up to their responsibilities to make sure they don't put their workers at risk of injury or death."
Those living in west London who believe they could have cause to make a personal injury claim may wish to speak to Ealing lawyers about the possibility of taking action.
Asbestos-related cases may arise as many people have contracted diseases from exposure to the substance before the law and safety guidance was adjusted to provide more protection.
An example of the present understanding of the threat posed by it was indicated this week when a fire at a recycling plant in Wednesbury, West Midlands led to it being sealed off due to the presence of asbestos in the building.
