06/04/2009 Acas claims new rules will cut tribunals |
|
The number of employment disputes reaching tribunals will fall under a new resolution system, the Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) has said.
Under the new system, the old three-step system of workplace dispute resolution will be replaced with simpler systems tailored to each workplace.
Commenting on this, Acas chief executive John Taylor said: "These changes should help improve relationships between managers and employees, cutting down disputes while saving time, money and stress for all concerned."
One element of the new system will be the ability for tribunals to change the size of awards for non-compliance with the new code.
Employers and employees keen to know more about their rights may wish to seek legal advice on such matters.
In one dispute, a 15-year-old paperboy is seeking to change the law after being sacked for refusing to start his shift at 06.30 - an earlier start than legally permitted.
The youngster from Ashford in Kent is seeking to overturn a children's employment law that does not class him as an employee - meaning he could not claim unfair dismissal.
