30/03/2009 Acas 'to launch new resolution service' |
|
The Advisory Conciliation and Arbritation Service (Acas) is to launch a new programme aimed at solving workplace disputes before they reach the employment tribunal stage.
Acas will launch the servive - aimed to deal with 20,000 cases each year - on April 6th, in response to a rise in its workload as the recession has led to increasing redundancies, the Financial Times reports.
This increase in workload includes a 29 per cent year-on-year jump in enquiries in February this year, with the government responding to provide £37 million over three years to fund an increase in the number of advisors from 95 to 150.
People dealing with issues of redundancy may wish to take legal advice before deciding how to proceed.
Recent redundancy news includes the loss of jobs at the Anson Packaging food plant in Wrexham, which is to shortly close down due to a shrinking company order book.
