05/01/2010 Action urged on age discrimination |
|
More action is needed to ensure age discrimination legislation is enforced, it has been argued.
According to the Financial Times, this will be an issue of increasing importance as the population gets older.
It stated: "Age discrimination needs to be outlawed not just in theory but in practice. Skills, not years, are what count."
Claiming that this will be easier for some companies to accomplish than others, the article said that it is important that people are able to work for longer in order to pay for their health and social care.
Those living in the capital who believe they have suffered from unlawful discrimination of any kind may wish to speak to employment lawyers in London about what action they can take.
Legal expert Amy Richardson recently wrote for the BBC that it is likely the new Equality Bill will help reduce the number of such instances when it comes into effect later this year.
