There will now be two "common commencement dates" for implementing legislative changes that affect employers, Workplace Law Network reports.
The new system has been implemented by the government in a bid to save businesses' money and these legislative changes will now take place on October 1st and April 6th.
Yesterday (October 1st) saw a number of changes including an increase to the national minimum wage, alterations to employers' liability insurance certificates and provisions to the companies' act. Business and competitiveness minister Shriti Vadera explained the benefits of the new system: "Business asked the Government for Common Commencement dates. They help companies to plan ahead and save money.
She said that a number of the changes due to come into effect this month will "bring significant benefits for businesses".
Baroness Vadera suggested that the government does recognise the increase in regulation that may result from new legislation and referred to an "ambitious programme" that could save businesses £3.5 billion in administrative by 2010.
A recent survey by Bibby Financial Services found that over two-thirds of small businesses had failed to make preparations for the increase in the national minimum wage which came into effect yesterday. |
