17/08/2009 Call for change on retirement age law |
|
The current law on retirement is outdated and should be scrapped and replaced with something to reflect modern realities, it has been argued. Campaign director of The Employers Forum on Age Rachel Krys said that she believed a "major shake-up" will happen soon on this matter. Ms Krys added: "The concept of retirement is outdated; it does not reflect how we live our lives today." She stated that a large number of employers are recognising the value of older workers and that the body is seeking to get those who fail to do this to change their views. Those living in the capital who feel they may have been unfairly discriminated against on age or other grounds could speak to employment lawyers in London to see if they have a case. Ms Krys's words come after a Lancaster University study on behalf of MacDonalds showed that the levels of customer satisfaction were 20 per cent higher in outlets employing workers aged 60 or older. Respondents cited the ability of older employees to provide better empathy and customer service, as well as offering experience to help younger employees develop.
