Incentive programmes should not be affected by potential claims of age and sex discrimination, a human resources (HR) boss has claimed.
Victoria Moore, general manager for rewards and pensions at electronics retailer Comet, told Workplace Law Network that a number of employers' reward schemes have been affected by the increasing prevalence of discrimination cases.
She said that in this age of discrimination claims, particularly relating to age, valuing loyalty and length of services has become "much more difficult".
It is not uncommon for a retail chain to employ a member of staff for their entire career and they should be allowed to recognise loyalty and commitment, the HR boss argued.
"We're not discriminating on the grounds of age and the intention of legislation shouldn't be about punishing businesses for rewarding loyalty," she concluded.
Jean Kelly, of Jean Kelly Consultancy, claims that it is "very important" for managers to be extensively trained in relation to workplace discrimination and they need to lead by example. |
