There has been a large increase in the number of employment law issues arising in the workplaces, a small business lobbying group has said. According to the Forum of Private Business (FPB), a third of calls to its helpline in August were about employment matters, with 14 per cent of these relating to redundancies. FPB policy representative Matt Goodman said: "Many firms are worried that they are not following the correct redundancy procedures when they have to lay off staff." Such figures suggest that there may be many instances where employers are not correctly applying the rules when deciding who to lay off, something that could lead to legal claims being made. Those living in the capital who think they may have reason to seek redress on such issues may wish to speak to employment lawyers in London. Figures from the Office for National Statistics this week showed that there were 246,000 redundancies in the UK in the three months to July. However, this was down by 55,000 on the previous quarter.
