Employment law was put on the agenda this week as Unison unveiled the extent to which workplace bullying takes place.
As part of Bullying at Work Day, the union published statistics showing more than one in three staff members have suffered such behaviour during the last six months.
General secretary Dave Prentis stressed that employers would do well to ensure those on their payroll are properly looked after, adding that his organisation will push for laws increase protection.
"We will continue to campaign for specific legislation, which will outlaw workplace bullying, ensure employers develop anti-bullying policies and aid bullied workers through employment tribunals," he remarked. Workers living in the capital who have suffered bullying may wish to take up their case with employment lawyers in London.
The number of staff members who claimed to have been bullied recently was double that which was recorded in 1997.
Further figures from Unison published in the last fortnight revealed 35 per cent of disabled workers believe they have also been bullied over the last two quarters.
