Employment laws 'breached' for immigrant workers
Employment laws are being flouted in cases involving a number of immigrant workers in the UK, a new report has suggested.

According to Oxfam's 'Turning the Tide: How to best protect workers employed by gangmasters, five years after Morecambe Bay' paper, some cleaners from this demographic are being paid less than minimum wage in the hospitality industry.

The charity's research found that in some instances, employees are earning their money on a room by room basis, with extremely high targets making it impossible for them to receive what they are entitled to.

In addition, there is evidence of people having to work up to 100 hours a week in the care sector, while health and safety practices are violated in the construction sector, "with repeated instances of threats to sack workers if they raise concerns".

Most adult workers in the UK are entitled to the minimum wage, with the top rate currently £5.73 per hour for those aged 22 or over.
