Employment ruling favours librarian
A librarian sacked by a school for repeated sickness absence has been awarded legal costs after her former employer wrongly disputed that she was disabled.

An employment judge ruled at the pre-hearing review prior to her unfair dismissal case that West Bridgford School was wrong to claim that Jacqueline Crockford is not suffering a disability, the Nottingham Post reports.

Ms Crockford has mixed nervous anxiety, a point recognised in an assessment in July and the judge has now awarded legal costs against the educational institution, which is fighting the case.

The ruling stated: "The respondent behaved unreasonably in seeking to challenge the report of the jointly instructed medical expert."

People living in the capital who have lost their jobs may wish to speak to employment lawyers in London about whether they have a case for unfair dismissal.

Earlier this month, data from the Tribunal Service showed that in the year to March 31st 2009 there were 63,000 employment tribunal claims, a rise of 15 per cent on the previous year.

This included a 29 per cent increase in unfair dismissal cases.
