A female lorry driver has won a sex discrimination case after being harassed by male employees in her working environment.
Jaine Tell was dismissed by CEVA Logistics in Swindon after an argument over a shift change but won her case for harassment, unfair dismissal and sex discrimination at an employment tribunal in Bristol, the Swindon Advertiser reports.
She was subjected to negative comments over the perceived suitability of someone of her gender to perform the role, while the tribunal reported that a male colleague had only been warned rather than sacked for refusing to change shift.
Those living in the capital who believe they may have cause to fight a discrimination case could benefit from the services of employment lawyers in London.
Cases involving people carrying out roles not traditionally associated with their gender have also seen men securing victories against discrimination.
These include a recent test case involving over 300 men working in council jobs at three English authorities as cleaners, lunchtime supervisors and carers, which found that they had been given an inferior back-pay deal to women in similar roles.
