|
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has claimed that fit to work notes will provide less flexibility than a good employer's existing policy regarding absenteeism.
Hugh Robertson, head of health and safety for the TUC, suggests that they are not against anything that is going to "encourage" people to get back to work as soon as they feel fit, healthy and capable.
"But we are not actually sure whether this is going to make that happen," he said.
"Good employers have already got sickness absence policies that allow for that and see it as an industrial relations matter for discussions between the employer and the worker," Mr Robertson added.
Bad employers are not going to do it anyway, he concluded.
Over £100 billion each year is lost by the British economy through the ill-health of workers, according to research conducted by the Department for Work and Pensions. |
