08/09/2009 Improvement in labour market not ending redundancies |
|
The labour market in the UK may be close to a turning point, a new survey has suggested, but it also notes there will still be more redundancies to come.
Manpower's global study of employers has found that the balance of sentiment over hiring and firing intentions is less negative now than in the second quarter of this year.
In the UK, this now stands at a balance of minus two, compared with minus six three months ago.
While 80 per cent of employers intend to make no change to their workforce size, nine per cent plan to hire more and 11 per cent intend to shed jobs.
Those among the 11 per cent who live in the capital may include some who have reason to believe their redundancies are not being handled fairly.
Such people could wish to speak to employment lawyers in London about their situation.
The latest UK unemployment figures have put the jobless total at 2.43 million, a rise of 750,000 over the past year.
