Journalists in the north-west of England are set to lose their jobs after the publishers of the Manchester Evening News revealed plans to make cuts.
MEN Media has revealed that it is looking to shed 150 posts, including making 78 writers redundant, after suffering a large fall in advertising revenue.
The group is to axe a number of regional titles and is shutting its offices in Accrington, Ashton-under-Lyne, Macclesfield, Oldham, Rochdale, Rossendale, Salford and Wilmslow.
Some of those affected may wish to seek legal advice about their situation.
In Norfolk, journalists affected by redundancies announced by publishers Archant are taking legal advice, accusing the company of presiding over a "farce".
National Union of Journalists representative Peter Kelly commented: "If another company had issued a list, for redundancy purposes, which had one person down twice and others with job titles around three years out of date, we'd be writing a story about it."
Jobs are set to go at titles such as the Eastern Daily Press and the Norwich Evening News.
