18/06/2009 Labour law charity scorns BA pay-less month idea |

The idea that employees should work without pay for a time to help a company get through the recession is a bad one, a representative of a labour law charity has said.
Director at the Institute of Employment Rights Carolyn Jones commented that low paid workers should not be bearing the brunt of economic problems they did not create.
Referring to the proposal by British Airways (BA) to work without a salary for a month, she said this was fine for managers but not for most.
"It would be nice if you could afford to fall back on your savings and work for the company for free, but back in the real world that doesn't happen," Ms Jones remarked.
Residents of the capital who may have been asked to work for free or reduced pay might wish to consult employment lawyers in London.
Chief executive of BA Willie Walsh will work for nothing in July as part of the initiative, which follows a pre-tax net loss for 2008 of £401 million.
