Legal advice sought as redundancy problems rise
The number of people going to Citizens Advice in England and Wales with redundancy problems has soared, it has been revealed.

Figures from the charity - which provides practical and legal advice - have shown that the number of people calling for advice on the subject was up by 114 per cent in the first three months of 2009, compared to the same period last year.

During the period there were 83,024 new enquiries, up from 38,745 a year earlier.

People needing specialised legal help over employment issues such as redundancy law may wish to consult a solicitor, as there may be reason for redress if employers have failed to follow procedures correctly.

The failure of employers to communicate with employees sufficiently is a very common cause of tribunals, legal expert Pamela Rogerson wrote in the Manchester Evening News this week.

She said: "This does not just affect consultation, but also the failure of employers to inform employees their jobs could be at risk."
