Over half the service sector jobs created in the UK over the past five years could be lost by 2011, a new report has warned.
The study by the centre for economics and business research said that 334,000 jobs are due to go, which could mean a large number of redundancies.
It blamed falling business investment, the decline in the property sector and the necessary tightening of the public sector purse strings in the years ahead as reasons for the trend.
Such a situation may lead to a continued stream of redundancies - with some cases leading to claims through employers failing to follow the correct procedures or act fairly.
Those suffering such a situation while working in the capital may wish to consult employment lawyers in London about what can be done.
Last week government figures revealed that the unemployed level in Britain rose to 2.26 million in May, with the benefit claimant count up by over 39,000 on April.
