Legal issues may be prominent as unemployment tipped to rise
Unemployment in the UK is likely to continue rising until well after the official end of the recession, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has predicted.

The TUC said that such a situation will occur because employers like to be sure that a recovery is in place before starting to take on new employees, noting that in the last recession the economy began to grow again in late 1991 but unemployment only started falling 18 months later.

General secretary Brendan Barber commented that even if the recent optimistic signs are correct and the downturn is bottoming out, "it will be years before the thousands of people who have lost their jobs or who will lose them in months to come will see anything to celebrate".

This could mean many more redundancies occurring, which in some cases might lead to people living in the capital losing their jobs without their employers following the correct procedures.

In such cases legal claims may be possible and employment lawyers in London can be consulted over this.

Recent figures from Citizens Advice showed that enquiries concerning redundancy - including legal issues - rose by 114 per cent in the first three months of 2009 from the same period a year earlier.
