15/10/2009 More redundancies as unemployment rises further |
|
The jobless total in the UK has risen to 2.47 million, according to the latest government figures.
Data from the Office for National Statistics revealed that there was a rise of 88,000 - or 0.3 per cent of the total workforce - in the three months to the end of August.
Redundancy levels tailed off at 233,000 in the quarter, which was 68,000 less than the previous three months but 85,000 more than a year before.
Such a situation may mean that many people in the capital are still facing the prospect of being laid off and those who may have a reason to contest it can speak to employment lawyers in London about their rights and options.
Last week, director of the Institute of Employment Rights Carolyn Jones claimed that some firms are using the recession as an excuse to make job cuts even when they don't need to because their firms are still performing well and making a profit.
