30/07/2009 New call on supply teacher rights |
|
Supply teachers should be given the same rights in the workplace as other educators, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) has argued.
The body noted that those who are employed by agencies and not local authorities do not enjoy equal rights to teachers contracted to schools, due to the partial way the government is planning to introduce the Temporary Agency Workers Directive.
ATL head of pay, conditions and pensions Martin Freedman stated: "All UK teachers should get the same pay and conditions for the work they do regardless of whether they are supply staff or permanent staff."
Those living in the capital with a worker rights-related dispute may wish to contact employment lawyers in London.
Earlier this week the Trades Union Congress released a survey showing that a large proportion of temporary workers were worse off than permanent colleagues when it came to matters such as sick pay and maternity leave.
