RBS to shed more jobs
There will be more redundancies at Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) centres in the UK following a fresh announcement by the financial institution that there will be 9,000 further job cuts.

Having already announced the loss of 2,700 UK posts already this year, the lender has said half the new cuts will take place in Britain, with back-office operations being targeted.

The situation has sparked anger among trade unions, with Unite national officer Rob MacGregor commenting: "These employees are totally blameless for the current position which RBS is in, yet they are paying for the mistakes at the top of the bank."

Employees of RBS or others facing redundancy may wish to take advice on their legal situation, should they be feel they are not being dealt with fairly.

The failure of many employers to carry out redundancy procedures has led to a number of potential legal claims, employment lawyers have said.

City institutions who laid off staff without consulting correctly are open to having action taken against them for this, the experts told the Times.
