26/03/2009 Redundancies loom at food packaging firm |
|
Workers at a food packaging plant in Wrexham are facing redundancy after it was announced the factory will close down. Anson Packaging is issuing the notices at its site on the Queensway Industrial Estate after a fall in orders placed the firm under pressure. Workers at the factory had previously come close to losing their jobs last June, when its former owners EP Packaging went into administration before being bought out by Anson. Local Welsh Assembly member Lesley Griffiths commented: "This has come as a blow to all those employed at Queensway." Those facing redundancy at Anson or elsewhere in the current economic climate may wish to seek legal advice on their employment rights. Meanwhile, a bill has been introduced in parliament that would increase the amount of redundancy pay those being laid off will get. The Statutory Redundancy Pay (Amendment) Bill is intended to increase the current capped level of payout workers can recieve, which is limited to £350 a week.
