07/10/2009 Redundancy accusation against profitable firms |
|
Companies who are coping well with the recession are still using it as an excuse to make redundancies, it has been argued.
Director of the Institute of Employment Rights Carolyn Jones claimed that while some firms are having to make cuts or changes, others are choosing to when it is not necessary.
"Companies who are still making profits and even paying out bonuses are still using the recession to cut back on the workforce, either by cutting jobs or by cutting terms and conditions of employment," She argued.
Those living in the capital who believe they are being singled out for redundancy or are having new working conditions imposed on them without good cause may wish to speak to employment lawyers in London.
Figures from the Tribunal Service released recently show that there was a 15 per cent rise in claims made in the year to March 31st 2009, taking the annual total to 63,000.
These included a 48 per cent jump in redundancy cases and a 29 per cent rise in unfair dismissal claims.
