Those being made redundant could make a claim if their employers have proceeded with the matter in a way that breaches employment law, an expert has stated.
Writing on the BBC website, legal expert Martin Edwards said claims for unfair dismissals in such instances are frequent and have brought payments of up to £66,200.
Among the common employer actions that may lead to claims are choosing who to make redundant on selective grounds and letting people go because of their attendance when there may be disability issues, he noted.
Mr Edwards added that another common occurrence is the failure of management to consider alternative measures, such as shorter working hours. Redundancy is a major current employment concern as many firms are shedding jobs due to the recession.
One example this week was of 400 workers at Wrekin Construction, who became unemployed after the firm went into administration.
