06/05/2009 Redundancy threat looms as van firm administration deadline nears |
|
Staff at LDV vans may be made redundant unless a possible takeover by a Malaysian company can be clinched at the 11th hour.
The firm has already passed Tuesday's deadline to go into administration but the government has agreed a £5 million loan to Weststar to take over the company, a deal which, if it goes through, will save the vanmaker and guarantee that production continues in Birmingham.
Should the deal fail to be concluded thousands may be made redundant, adding to the hundreds of thousands losing their jobs this way in recent months due to the recession.
Those who believe their employers have not followed the correct process in such cases may wish to consult a solicitor to see if they have grounds for legal action.
Software firm Sage is expected to announce more job cuts today after publishing its latest financial results.
The firm cut 400 jobs worldwide and may trim more, including some of its UK staff.
