Any employees that lose their job after being revealed as a British National Party (BNP) member could claim payouts in excess of £10,000 for unfair dismissal, it has been reported. A serving police officer, whose name appeared on the leaked list of members that was posted online earlier this week, has been suspended from duty. The police have banned officers from being members of the BNP by claiming it is their duty as a public body to promote equality under the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000. A freelance presenter for TalkSport radio has reportedly been told his services will not be required again. BNP leader Nick Griffin suggests that the recent Equality Act makes it clear that "discrimination against an individual on political grounds constitutes a breach of contractual employment law". Mr Griffin claims any individual that suffers discrimination from their employers as a result of this leak could be entitled to "substantial compensation".
