Compensation assigned to a female soldier following a sexual harassment lawsuit has been branded "obscene" in light of the awards given to injured soldiers.
Lance Bombardier Kerry Fletcher was awarded £187,000 following mistreatment at the hands of a male colleague, a sum questioned by the National Gulf Veterans and Families Association.
The sum includes a punitive award of £50,000 in exemplary compensation and it is believed to be the first time an employment tribunal in Britain has awarded such damages, the Metro reports.
Spokesperson for the association Shaun Rusling said: "We do not agree with anyone being picked on but it is just Miss Fletcher's feelings that have been hurt.
"It seems there is one law in peacetime and another law when you are at war, fighting for Queen and country.'"
The Ministry of Defence has apologised to Ms Fletcher, who has three further complaints outstanding against the Army, for the campaign of sexual harassment she experienced during her service.
According to a recent study by the Equal Opportunities Commission, 90 per cent of people with cases for sexual harassment lost their jobs or resigned from their posts as a direct result.
