17/09/2009 Tribunal to be held over mental illness |
|
A PR expert is taking his employer to a tribunal for unfair dismissal after alleging that their errors caused him to develop a mental illness. Richard Saville-Smith is bringing the action against tourist body VisitScotland, alleging that "inept" practices and a large workload caused him to develop a bipolar problem. He had been brought in to work full-time in a role that had previously been undertaken on a part-time basis, heading up the Year of Homecoming campaign. "This was a troubled post, where the previous incumbent had never been more than part-time during all the crucial planning stages," he noted. He claimed that he was snubbed by colleagues and subsequently dismissed following medical clearance to resume work. Those living in the capital who have an employment dispute may wish to see employment lawyers in London to assess what action they can take. Earlier this week, prison warder Amitjo Kajla from Wolverhampton won her age and sex discrimination case against the prison service after losing her post at Brinsford Young Offenders Institute. She said she had been bullied over her good looks and accused of being too friendly with some of the inmates. Written by Anthony Dyson
